The Griffons hosted the Toyota Cheetahs in a competitive SA Cup encounter, with both teams showing strong passages of play despite the final scoreline.
The visitors opened the scoring early when Daniel Maartens crossed for the first try, with Jaco van der Walt adding the conversion to make it 7–0. The Toyota Cheetahs looked sharp in attack, using width and pace to test the Griffons’ defence.
To their credit, the Griffons responded with determination. Backed by their home support, they built momentum through structured phases and were rewarded with a try that brought them back into the match.
Despite the Griffons’ resilience, the Cheetahs continued to apply pressure and capitalised on key opportunities, gradually extending their lead. However, the home side never dropped their intensity, showing physicality and commitment in both attack and defence.
While the scoreboard eventually reflected a 57–10 victoryfor the Toyota Cheetahs, the contest itself featured competitive moments, with the Griffons fighting hard and showing glimpses of their attacking ability.
In the end, the result highlighted the Cheetahs’ clinical finishing, but also the Griffons’ fighting spirit in front of their home crowd.
