On December 11, 2025, the Provincial Youth Crime Prevention Desk and Provincial Community Police Forum (CPF), in partnership with COSATMA, hosted the Sports Against Crime Awareness Campaign at Tlhabane Sports Ground. Approximately 600 young people from surrounding communities attended the event, which carried the powerful theme: “Crime is not a career, but sports can be.”
The campaign aimed to redirect young people’s energy and talents towards positive opportunities through sports. By showcasing various sports and activities, the event demonstrated that traits often seen as negative can be channelled into positive pursuits. For instance, strength can be directed towards boxing or karate, while confidence can open doors to modelling or creative careers.
The event’s message was clear: talent can build a future. Sport develops essential life skills such as discipline, teamwork, respect, and leadership, helping young people choose a positive path and stay away from crime. The event was supported by various stakeholders, including SAPS, Provincial Substance Abuse Forum (PSAF), Office of the Premier, Department of Health, National Prosecution Authority, Mmabana, Traffic Department, and ACSF.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Naidoo, was represented by Brigadier Molate, who delivered the keynote address. The Provincial CPF Board Chairperson, Mr. Malungane, thanked all stakeholders for their contributions to the event’s success. The message to the youth was clear: “Do not waste your potential on crime—choose a positive path and invest in your future.”
