BLOEMFONTEIN – Siwelele FC and TS Galaxy shared the spoils after playing to an entertaining 2-2 draw in their opening Betway Premiership fixture of the 2026/27 season at Toyota Stadium on Sunday.
Jeza Gives Siwelele Early Lead
The home side made a bright start and were rewarded in the 29th minute when Siphesihle Jeza opened the scoring to hand Siwelele a 1-0 lead.
Siwelele looked dangerous in attack during the opening stages, creating several opportunities as they attempted to take control of the contest in front of their home supporters.
TS Galaxy Fight Back
TS Galaxy responded strongly after the restart, with Sepana Letsoalo finding the back of the net in the 51st minute to level the match at 1-1.
The visitors showed greater attacking intent in the second half and looked more composed as they searched for a way back into the game.
Pule Restores Siwelele Advantage Before Zulu Equalises
Siwelele regained the lead just four minutes later when Vincent Pule scored in the 55th minute, putting the hosts 2-1 ahead.
However, TS Galaxy refused to give up and continued applying pressure. Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Veluyeke Zulu scored the equaliser to make it 2-2.
Both teams pushed for a late winner, but neither side could find the decisive goal as the points were shared after an entertaining four-goal encounter.
Masite Red Card Adds Late Drama
TS Galaxy’s afternoon ended on a sour note when Sipho Gift Masite was shown a red card in the 94th minute, forcing the visitors to finish the match with ten men.
Despite the late setback, Galaxy held on to secure a valuable point away from home.
Parker Reflects on Galaxy’s Approach
After the match, TS Galaxy coach Bernard Parker reflected on his team’s tactical approach and admitted there were moments where they could have been more effective in possession.
“Overall, we had a plan and it worked at some instances. We decided not to play quicker, and we also thought we would have more joy playing with our wing-backs, creating more chances for us,” Parker said.
Seema Happy Despite Missed Opportunities
Siwelele FC coach Lehlohonolo Seema was pleased with his team’s performance, highlighting the challenges that come with the opening match of the season, including new players adapting and young players stepping up from development structures.
“It’s the first game of the season, we expected a lot of things due to nerves, new signings and players from development. However, we created a lot of chances but missed them. I’m happy with the performance,” said Seema.
Both Teams Take Positives from Opening Fixture
The draw gives both sides a point as they begin their 2026/27 campaign. Siwelele FC will take confidence from their attacking approach and chances created, while TS Galaxy will be encouraged by their resilience after twice coming from behind to earn a share of the points.
