The Tlokwe Taxi Association in Potchefstroom recently hosted the Umdlalo wa se Potch event, a celebration of community spirit and giving back. The event, held at Ikageng Stadium, brought together taxi drivers, bicycle riders, and the community to showcase their skills and give back to those in need.
“It takes a community to raise a child,” said Mr. Tebogo Ramokgadi, organiser of the event and member of the Tlokwe Taxi Association. The event featured various activities, including bicycle competitions for kids and a car show, where taxis, vans, and private cars were judged on their condition, compliance with road laws, and cleanliness.
The main purpose of the event was to give back to the community, specifically children from poor backgrounds. The association identified schools with children in need and donated school uniforms, including backpacks, shoes, and other essentials. Beneficiaries included Pudulogo, Keagile, and Themba le Danise Primary Schools.
The event attracted participants from across the region, including Ventersdorp, and is the third annual Umdlalo wa se Potch event. “We normally invite participants from all 9 provinces,” said Ramokgadi, highlighting the association’s commitment to community outreach.
The Tlokwe Taxi Association’s initiative has made a tangible difference in the lives of local children, demonstrating the power of community-driven efforts.
