The University of Pretoria High Performance Center was the place where every player and their team wanted to be as they hosted the Engen Champions Champs tournament.
Amongst the teams that took part in this remarkable tournament was Potch Academy all the way from Potchefstroom in North West Province. Even though the team didn’t do well in the tournament, they went and came back with pride and joy as they believed they were brave enough to face the most respected teams in the country.
Amongst the teams that took part in this year’s tournament were Cape Town City, Chippa United, Panorama and others. The tournament included both boys and girls.
Speaking to The Sports Eye, Potch Academy Coach, Papi Lekopa, said even though they didn’t do well at the games, they are happy to have featured in the event.
Said Lekopa, “These kinds of tournaments give a player passion and increases their confidence. It also takes the players away from their comfort zones and give them experience of how the world of soccer works. You never grow as a coach or player if you’re not taking part in these platforms.”
Potch Academy, in their first game, lost 2-0 to Chippa United. In the second game, they played a tough encounter against Cape Town City and lost 3-0.
