The Member of the Executive Council for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Me Ntombizanele Sifuba, extends her gratitude to the South African Football Association (SAFA) for the continuous collaboration in bringing the Bafana Bafana games to the Free State.
In tandem with the resolve of the 7th administration in the Free State to transform the province into a mecca of major sporting events, several national and international games have been proudly hosted in the province. The hosting of major sporting tournaments has undoubtedly contributed to the much-needed growth of sport tourism and has showcased the province’s capacity to host such events.
“We pay tribute to SAFA for continuing to show confidence in us as a province and entrusting us with such a huge responsibility to host Bafana Bafana games here in the Free State. Because of the solid partnership that we have developed with SAFA, we are now beyond the era when Bafana Bafana games would be played anywhere else in the country but the Free State. We are therefore delighted at this positive development,” asserted MEC Ntombizanele Sifuba.
The FIFA World Cup Qualifier match played between Bafana Bafana and Nigeria on 9 September, like the previous matches hosted in the Free State since the 7th administration, was also staged as part of the Service Level Agreement between the Department of SACR and SAFA.
“We look forward to more such partnerships in the future. As a province, we have solidly demonstrated our readiness to be the catalyst for sport tourism and social cohesion. We thank the multitudes of passionate and sports-loving Free Staters who make it possible for us to be considered for these tournaments. Without such passion, our quest to be the mecca of major sporting tournaments will be in vain”, concluded MEC Sifuba.
