Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi and MEC for Arts Culture Sports and Recreation Wessels Morweng on the red carpet

– Sun City Superbowl once again became the centre stage of South African Music talent and excellence when the country’s big names in music, entertainment and the creative industry made their way to the SAMA32 this past weekend.

SAMAs are the country’s premier awards platform recognising excellence, innovation and achievement across the South African recording industry while celebrating the artists and creators who shape the nation’s cultural identity and global influence.

The event celebrated creativity, diversity and cultural excellence to define the country’s entertainment scene hosted by Cassper Nyovest and Potelwa.

The North West MEC for the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, Wessels Moroeng said the department was proud to be part of this major occasion which place the province at the heart of South Africa’s music and creative industries.

Through our ongoing support for the Arts and Culture sector, we remain committed to create platforms that promote cultural expression and position North West as key destination for national events,” said MEC Moroeng.

Friday was the official kick off with the Technical awards marking the beginning of the weekend dedicated to celebrating the exceptional talent in music.

From the red carpet to the main award ceremony, the event reflected the energy and vibrancy of the industry that remains a vital part of the country’s cultural identity. SAMA32 also provided a platform both established and emerging artists whose work continues to shape South African Music.

Ntsiki the Guitarist from the North West grabbed the attention of the audience with an impressive musical performance showcasing exceptional creative talent as well as Zawadi Yamungu and Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini who added to the vibrant atmosphere with their performance.

At the main ceremony, guests were treated to a well crafted production with performances by Stoan Seate performing multi artist opening performance medley. Cassper Nyovest and Maglera performing, Makasana, Makhadzi singing, Seanamarena, Langa Mavuso performed the song “I chose you”. Tuks and Mo-Molemi delivered a special segment celebrating the legacy of Motswako Hip-Hop, song- Monate Twa, Focalistic, Mmabana Dance group and Christian Progressive College Production to mention a few that sealed the night.

North West Gospel artist, Busi Gadebe got her third SAMA trophy for the Best Traditional Faith Music Album. Di Bruin Gospel Project was also nominated but did not make it.

It’s founder and music producer, Brown Mosiapoa said the choir might not have gotten the award but promised their fans inspirational music and hope to do more come SAMA33.

“We put our trust in the Lord almighty. Our time will come and we trust his timing,” added Mosiapoa.

Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the founder of Kalawa Jazmee, the legendary Oskido, real name Bonginkosi Mdlongwa and recipient of Order of Ikhamanga by North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi for his immense contribution to the South African music. He dedicated his award to the likes of the late Lebo Mathosa, Trompies and many other musicians who departed this world indicating that the journey he travelled he was not alone.

Superstar, Tyler also received an International Achievement Award presented to her by media personality, Bonang Matheba for her extra ordinary impact she continues to make by putting South African music on the global stage. She is the second artist in history to join Black Coffee to win the International Achievement Award twice. When accepting the award, she generously invited fellow South African artists including Cassper Nyovest, Babalwa M, Makhadzi, Zee Nxumalo onto the stage to share her moment and called for a united Africa.

Recording Industries of South Africa (RiSA) congratulated the two artist for their remarkable contribution in ensuring that SA music remains alive even for future generations .
