– The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in the North West Province this week announced the finalists for the 2026 North West Sports Awards.The announcement was made on Monday, 20 July in Mahikeng as the department marks 10 years of recognising men and women who excel in sport across different sporting codes, including members of the media.
According to North West Sports Confederation President, Mr Thebe Sekoto, the nominees reflect the hard work and dedication of athletes across the province. “We acknowledge the effort made by men and women in different categories and in different sporting codes,” said Mr Sekoto.
He called on community members to support their favourites by voting, especially in the highly contested Sports Star of the Year category. Nominees for Sports Star of the Year are: Kagiso Pholoholo, Aphelele Sibisi, Bradley Nkoana, Anderea Stynberg, Asanda Simelane.
Other categories include Rural Sports Team of the Year, School Team of the Year, Sports Volunteer of the Year, and Community Sports Recreation of the Year, among others. The awards ceremony will be held at Sun City, Rustenburg on 1 August 2026.
