In a night to remember, the Junior Springboks delivered a proud and courageous performance to defeat France 16-5 and claim the 2026 World Rugby U20 Championship title in Georgia on Saturday, 18th July 2026.
Playing with great heart and discipline in front of a passionate crowd, the young South Africans showed maturity well beyond their years. They dominated the physical exchanges, won key battles at the breakdown, and maintained strong defensive structures that frustrated a talented French side throughout the match.
The Junior Boks built their lead through accurate goal-kicking and a well-worked try, while their opponents managed only a single score. The final 16-5 scoreline reflected a contest defined by South Africa’s tactical control, forward power, and collective resilience under pressure.
“This was a completely different team, different connections and a different journey. One thing about this team is that we just keep grinding it out because of the care we have for each other,” said Mnebelele, the Junior Boks captain.
He added: “We talk about giving love on defence, giving love on attack, and doing it for the guy next to you and for the people back home in South Africa. That’s what drove us throughout the tournament.”
This victory marks an achievement for South African rugby. It celebrates the dedication, hard work, and talent of a special group of young players who have carried the green and gold with distinction.
“South Africa is a very special place, and we are very lucky to represent our people. Right now, we’re just feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity.” said the head coach Kevin Footer.
