Army Rockets FC are demanding neutral match officials ahead of their SAB Motsepe League provincial playoff against North West University on Sunday, hoping to avoid a repeat of last season’s dramatic finish. The Mahikeng side’s previous encounter with Thames FC ended in a draw and a brawl, with Army Rockets claiming several refereeing decisions were questionable and influenced the outcome.

This weekend, the team returns to the playoffs for a second consecutive season and has written to SAFA requesting national referees or officials for the provincial decider against NWU in Potchefstroom. The club says the move is meant to ensure history does not repeat itself.Speaking ahead of the match, Army Rockets coach Karabo Masehela said the squad is ready and focused.

“We don’t travel all the way from Mahikeng to Potchefstroom to give away three points,” he said. Masehela promised a tough contest, adding that the team is prepared for another physical playoff stage against North West University.

The match will be played on Sunday at the University of North West’s playing grounds in Potchefstroom.
