Champaigns and t-shirt printed champions are ready to be unveiled on Friday at Clive Solom stadium outside Bloemfontein where Mangaung Unite welcome Tower United in the 2025/26 Safa Free State ABC Motsepe league encounter that could decide a championship.
The Lengau boys just need three points out of the possible 12 to secure the championship. They will need to see off the Clarens based outfit, Tower to be crowned the 2025/26 Safa ABC Motsepe league champions. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00.
In their first-round contest United narrowly beat Tower by 2-1 in the contest that took place at the Kgubetswana stadium near Clarens in January. They are quite aware that this encounter will not be just a walk in the park as they will have to fight with everything.
The Mangaung based outfit, arguably deserve the championship as they have been on the top of the table for the better part of the season. They have been challenged by the likes of Mangaung City, Kovsie, Super Eagle and Sasolburg United who earlier bought the status of D’General from Botshabelo.
They are currently 10 points clear from Sasolburg United who are at their tail. United have collected 70 points in 29 games. They are followed by United with 60 points and City with 58 points. United and City are two games ahead of the leaders.
Mangaung United have been playing in this league for over a decade. They have won the league five in 12-years and went on to represent the province in the Safa ABC Motsepe league promotional play-offs, in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024.
The closest they have come to promotion was when they lost in the semi-final to Hungry Lions in 2021 at the finals which were played in Mbombela. They advanced to the semi-finals as best number two.
The team has pleaded on their Facebook page to supporters to come in number on Friday to support the boys. “The Friday win will ease the pressure going into the final three games of the season,” the message reads.
