South African Football Association (SAFA) staff members visited late colleague David Jacobs’ family home in Allen’s Nek, Roodepoort, to pay their respects on Thursday afternoon.

Jacobs (pictured) passed away on Sunday, 7 September 2025, after a suspected heart attack and in accordance with his Muslim faith, he was laid to rest on the same day at Westpark Cemetery.

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao and CFO Gronie Hluyo led the delegation and they said the quietly spoken Jacobs, who had been working at the SAFA Finance Department since 2012, will be sorely missed.

Jacobs was known for his quiet and unassuming demeanour. He was well-loved by his colleagues and deeply committed to his work. His presence will be sorely missed within the SAFA family.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said Jacobs’ passing was a huge loss to his family, the Association and football at large.

“This is such a huge loss. Our sincere condolences to his family and we grieve his passing. May his soul rest in  peace,” said the SAFA President.
