Paseka None
Ikageng
Born and raised in Potchefstroom, Paseka None has been an active sports enthusiast from a young age. We sat down with Paseka to discuss his achievements and experiences in various sports.
Paseka’s sporting journey began with basketball, which he started playing at a young age. By 12, he was representing North West at the national level. However, his sporting career took an unexpected turn when a fellow athlete, Tsholofelo, encouraged him to try netball. Despite initial doubts, Paseka excelled in netball under the guidance of coach Migdell van Nie Kerk and went on to represent North West at the national level.
Achievements:
– 2008: Best Male Player in Dr. Kenneth Kaunda
– 2013: Represented Province at Girls High as a player and umpire
– 2021: Participated in the National Games held at Rustenburg Sun City
Paseka’s sporting prowess extends beyond netball. He has also participated in:
– Dibeke: Represented North West (Super Giants) in 2011 and 2022
– Basketball: Represented North West (Ikageng Slammers) at the national stage, winning first position in Durban
– Soccer: Fitness trainer at Tiki Taka and technical team member for their netball team
The State of Sports in South Africa
When asked about the lack of balance in sporting codes, Paseka attributed it to the education system. “The problem starts in schools,” he said. “If we can introduce various sports to kids at an early age, they will grow up knowing that there are more sports beyond soccer, cricket, and rugby.”
Today, Paseka remains involved in sports as an umpire, fitness coach, and motivator, inspiring the next generation of athletes to explore different sporting codes.
