The official opening of Sebakeng Arts Center at the heart of Ikageng has brought much hope amongst local artists. The hunger for not having an arts center in Ikageng has officially come to an end.

The launch event was attended by who and who’s in the Ikageng arts industry. The organizers told The Sports Eye that they particularly want to reach out to artists who might not ordinarily have the opportunity to get involved in arts activities and make sure that the Center becomes the hive of activities.

The founder of Sebakeng Art Center, Ms Sebakeng Kabi, said the center was established in 2008 and continues to grow in leaps and bounds. The idea of opening a center came after she attended a program that motivated artists to follow their dreams in different kinds of art and to expose them to the world of art.

According to Ms Kabi, this center envisages giving young people, especially artists, job opportunities in numerous ways.

“They will be given a chance to showcase their artwork and showcase their skills and, above all, be given the opportunity to collaborate with one another whilst also reaching out to organizations in the creative industry.

“This center also focuses on getting more information on current trends in the creative industry and this will go a long way in developing local artists and making sure that they compete meaningfully in the creative industry.”

Among the activities that artists can also participate in at the center are chess, indigenous games, performing arts and visual arts.

This center is open to each and every artist who wants to be part of it and be given a chance to grow.
